Team presentation :

Saltwater and Sea Water Distillation and Desalination team (DDESM) is a team that was created in 2006, it is composed of multidisciplinary specialists in the fields of water, energy and the environment. its research focuses on the design, production and development of prototypes for the desalination of brackish water and seawater by renewable energy.

Our strategy aims to provide efficient and sustainable water supply solutions in arid and semi-arid regions and throughout the country. Our objective is to preserve and restore water resources today and for future generations, to find the best coupling possibilities for the exploitation and application of renewable energies in the field of the pure water production.

Our work is focused on five themes, four on desalination and water treatment processes (solar distillation, solar membrane desalination, seawater pretreatment and recovery of liquid discharges and one on the development of organic and ceramic membranes. , which is linked to the first research focus.

Research focus:

  • Study and realization of autonomous desalination systems.
  • Processes and synthesis of new membranes for water treatment.
  • Renewable energies for desalination and water recycling.
  • Water pre-treatment and recovery of brines.
  • Membrane autopsy (Study of the clogging phenomenon).
  • Offer innovative solutions dedicated to water desalination and sustainable and economic development in collaboration with national and international industrial partners.

The team has developed fruitful collaborations with many international laboratories: PSA (Almeria, Spain), ITM (Italy), University of Minho (Portugal), UTM Research Center (Malaysia), BCMaterials, Basque Center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures (Spain), Enerplan SA Lausanne, Friborg (Switzerland), University of Madagascar and the University of Sfax, Maritime School (Bou-Ismail).

To contribute to the development of new piloting procedures and semi-industrial systems, we joined the three new TAMAYOUZ excellence laboratories and we developed projects with European and African academic partners. We also have relationships with Socio-economic partners (Myah Tipaza, Amenhyd, Ecorep, etc.) in order to provide innovative solutions adapted to the Algerian context, particularly in the fields of water treatment and desalination, analysis and renewable energies.
