June 21st, 2018

On the occasion of the celebration of the Summer Solstice 2018, the Renewable Energies Development Center (CDER) commemorated its 30 years of scientific research and technological development in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

On this occasion, the CDER organized as usual on Thursday, June 21st at the Solar Equipments Development Unit in Bouismail, a ceremony to honor the best scientific productions and technological realizations at the national level. The ceremony was an opportunity to honor the best scientific productions and realizations at the national level.

In the presence of Professor Bouhicha, who represented Professor Hafid Aourag General Director of Scientific Research and Technological Development, the Director of the EPST CDER, Mr. Noureddine Yassaa, CEO of SONELGAZ and the Director of the National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use APRU and the General Commander of the Algerian Muslim Scouts and Research Managers,

Before the honorary prizes, Dr. Bouzidi Belkacem Director of the Solar Equipments Development Unit of Bousmail (UDES / CDER) gave a brief welcome speech followed by an opening speech given by Professor Bouhicha, who represented the Professor Hafid Aourag General Director of The Scientific Research and Technological Development.

ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD for the Promotion of Renewable Energies was awarded to SIDRA Association (a non-profit association certified by UNESCO in December 2013. SIDRA has 70 active members and a database of more than 1000 volunteers).

The director of the EPST CDER, Mr. Noureddine Yassaa, gave a retrospective on the renewable energies development center since its creation in March 1988 under the tutelage of the High Commission for Research as a Public Institution of a Scientific and Technological (EPST) character with intersectorial vocation, then it is under the tutelage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research that it has expanded its activities on the national territory through its three units located in Adrar in the south, Ghardaia in the northern part of the Sahara and Bouismail in the wilaya of Tipaza.

The Director of the EPST CDER specifies, on the sidelines of the celebration, that Algeria has offered the means to make the energy transition a success with the training of 40 PhDs a year in renewable energy specialties and several partnership agreements signed with research structures and foreign universities.

According to Mr. Noureddine Yassaa, the Algerian has realized that the transition in question is an unavoidable alternative , in addition to this collective awareness, there is a political will translated on the ground by concrete actions and through the decision of the President of the Republic to classify the energy transition as a national priority with the creation of a ministry dedicated to renewable energies and the recent decision of the Ministry of the Interior, local authorities and regional planning, concerning the progressive introduction of renewable energies use in local communities.

On this occasion, the CDER honored Professor Hamouda Messaoud, former director of the Research Unit for Renewable Energies in the Saharan Region (URERMS), for his active work and dedication to achieving the objectives of the CDER.

The channel 3 radio was also present at the ceremony by a live radio platform powered by renewable energies around the autonomous solar energy table.

The afternoon of this celebration was devoted to the general public visit through open doors to discover the various activities of the EPST CDER and its scientific and technological products that were developed by its researchers, engineers and technicians.

For information, the definition of the summer solstice 2018 or the longest day of the year marking the arrival of the hot season, is an astronomical event which takes place at a precise moment, where the longitude of the sun is at 90 ° C in the Northern Hemisphere, this year the Institute of Celestial Mechanics and Ephemeris Calculation (IMCCE) calibrated this moment ( the summer solstice) at 12:07 and 19 seconds UTC (universal time) on Thursday.
