PRIMA program Promotion day in UDES

       In the framework of the promotion of the PRIMA program, the DGRSDT organized on Thursday, February 15th, 2018 at the headquarters of the solar equipments development unit (UDES), a study day on the PRIMA program (Partnership for Research and Development). Innovation in the Mediterranean Zone) and 2018 calls for projects.

      PRIMA is a program that aims to find a solution to the major challenges of water resources and food systems. Its funding will reach 500 million euros over 10 years, of which 220 million will be provided by the EU, while the rest will come from participating states including Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.

      According to Professor BOUHICHA Mohamed, Algeria is committed to contribute through a rich program for an amount of 20 million euros in the following areas:

Area 1: WATER MANAGEMENT:

Research Themes

  • Water reuse and desalination for agricultural and food production
  • Availability and quality of water resources in watersheds and aquifers
  • Sustainable and integrated water management
  • Irrigation technologies and practices

Area 2: AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS

    Research Themes

  • Sustainable agricultural production ecosystems
  • Adaptation of agriculture to climate change
  • Prevent the emergence of animal and plant diseases
  • Develop farming systems that generate income, create jobs and contribute to balanced territorial development

Area 3: AGRO-FOOD VALUE CHAINS

Research Themes

  • Implementation of innovation in the agri-food chain, promotion of superior quality, sustainability and competitiveness, with particular reference to smallholders
  • Food products from the traditional Mediterranean diet valorization
  • Food security in local food chains
  • Implications of dietary changes and sustainable diets for Med populations and the food industry
