Workshop on Climate Finance at UDES

3 - 4 July 2017

       On the 3rd, 4th July 2017, a workshop on “ capacities reinforcement in the development of financing proposals for projects and programs relating to the climate” was held at the solar equipments Development Unit (U DES) of the Renewable Energy Development Center (CDER). Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on "Climate Finance", This workshop is part of a cooperation project with the European Union in the fields of Climate Changes" Climasouth " .

      The purpose of this workshop; According to project manager ClimaSouth in Algeria, Mr. Bernardo Sala is to find the EU funding mechanisms related to climate change and their application in Algeria and contribute in particular to the completion and implementation of the 03 projects which are currently being elaborated by Algeria.

      For this purpos, The main objective of the ClimaSouth project is to strengthen regional cooperation between the EU and its Mediterranean neighbors in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation, mainly through capacity development and trade Information and thus improve access to good practice and legislation in the European Union by decision-makers, administration and experts from participating countries in the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP).

      The ClimaSouth project aims to support and work with partner countries in the transition to economies adapted to the climate changes based on the decrease of the greenhouse gas emissions in eight countries in the southern Mediterranean, Namely, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.

      The first day of the workshop was devoted to the presentation of EU funding mechanisms and manuals related to climate change by Bernardo Sala, Climasouth project manager and Louis Perroy, financial consultant.

       Over the next two days, the discussions focused on the technical issues of the two projects developed by the CDER and the Ministry of Agriculture on the implementation of a water pumping system based on Solar energy and the bioenergy plant based on waste recovery, and the third project on energy efficiency in buildings, designed by the Ministry of Housing and the National Center for Studies and building Integrated Research (CNERIB).
