The Solar Equipment Development Unit (UDES) affiliated to the Renewable Energies Development Center (CDER) represented by its Director Dr Belkacem Bouzidi, participated in the fifth edition of the African Investment and Trade Forum (AFIC 2018) which took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Algiers from March 31st to April 2nd, 2018.

The main purpose of this edition is to promote trade and facilitate the creation of partnerships between governments and the business world (experts, entrepreneurs, traders, banks and financial institutions) with the aim of the promotion of economic investments in Algeria and also in the African continent.

This fifth edition takes place at a period Algeria is facing an economic challenge whose objective is to reduce the dependence of the national economy on hydrocarbons. The AFIC 5 forum has proposed solutions to replace Algeria's dependence on this sector by highlighting the importance and efficiency and reliability of renewable energies. In this regard, Dr. Belkacem Bouzidi presented in his speech Algeria's strategy to diversify its energy production given the importance of its renewable energy potential and the rapid evolution of petroleum product consumption (growth rate), more than 40% over 10 years. Especially since by 2050, the population will reach 60 million inhabitants and the need for energy will be much greater.
